RMA Group has provided professional design and materials testing services at the Bob Hope Airport since 1978, and has held 6 multi-year contracts since 1986. Our first project at the airfield was a pavement evaluation, which consisted of evaluating all of the existing pavements and providing design recommendations for asphalt, concrete overlays, and general maintenance of the airfield. Since then, RMA has provided professional services on more than 30 additional projects at the Bob Hope Airport which have included providing design recommendations for new pavements as well as construction inspection and materials testing services on a wide variety of improvement projects.

In a more recent project, the Airport Authority hired RMA to address one of the airport’s main safety concerns. As Bob Hope Airport grew, its main artery needed extension. The project extended Taxiway D from the southern edge of Runway 15-33, the main takeoff runway, to the eastern end of Runway 8-26, the airport’s main landing path. The project also included the relocation of the airport service road and guard kiosk, reconstruction of the asphalt pavement, and the addition of a tie-in to Taxiway D that allows service planes, such as UPS aircraft, to turn out instead of waiting behind commercial planes.

RMA Group’s scope of services included inspection of the subgrade, base, and Portland cement concrete pavement construction as well as quality assurance testing of all the materials supplied to the project in assistance to and under the direction of DMJM Harris. In order to meet a tight deadline, RMA staff worked 18-24 hours a day for four months. The project was successfully completed with FAA oversight and delivered to the satisfaction of the Airport Authority.

RMA’s long-standing relationship with Bob Hope Airport exemplifies our ability to learn and grow with our clients. Because of our loyalty and experience in this market and with this specific client, we are able to provide effective solutions and minimize interruptions to the functionality of the airport. This is exemplified in a letter from Karen Sepulveda, Assistant Airport Engineer with the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority: “Your personnel’s knowledge and familiarity of FAA specifications and testing procedures greatly assisted in providing quality taxiway and terminal improvements. Your response to our request for emergency repairs over the busy Labor Day weekend was particularly impressive. After receiving a call from me at ten o’clock in the evening, Brian Platt was on site within two hours to monitor the repair of asphalt on the ramp adjacent to our terminal aircraft parking gates. Due to his quick response and knowledge, we were able to reopen the area for aircraft operations the following morning.”
