Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center
Location: Santa Cruz, CA
Client: City of Santa Cruz
Construction Cost: $15,900,000
As part of a selection process for a new marine center, the City of Santa Cruz was chosen out of 23 other sites to house the new Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center. NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries collaborated with the City of Santa Cruz and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation to build this $15.9 million Sanctuary Exploration Center.

The 12,600-square-foot center overlooks the ocean adjacent to Santa Cruz’s famed beach boardwalk and the City’s Municipal Wharf. The center features interactive and multi-media exhibits for visitor exploration of the surrounding, remarkable marine environment while emphasizing conservation roles in protecting this underwater legacy.

RMA Group was proud to be included in the construction of this amazing facility. Our special inspectors and technicians provided observation, inspection, and testing for several construction materials and components. These aspects included concrete reinforcement placement, mix design review, cast-in-place concrete, structural lightweight concrete for elevated decks, structural steel, steel decking, metal fabrications, and sprayed-applied fireproofing.
