RMA Scope of Work:
UC Riverside has developed the Health Sciences Research Building to support the School of Medicine. The construction of transitional facilities for instruction and research within the existing academic core of UC Riverside’s East Campus is key to the success of the new Medical School.

The 58,000 square foot, three-story, reinforced concrete building includes space for research laboratories, research support space, faculty offices, and office support space to accommodate biomedical sciences and life sciences research. Laboratory support spaces feature direct access to the open lab areas and equipment spaces. A shared equipment corridor allows lab technicians to occupy workstations along the building’s exterior.

The School of Medicine Health Sciences Research Building was awarded LEED Gold Certification and holds the distinction of being the first building on campus to be LEED certified. The building received many additional awards including R&D Magazine’s Lab of the Year, the 2011 California Higher Education Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Conference Best Practice-Overall Sustainable Design, and the 2012 Riverside Beautification Award.

RMA Group’s scope of services on this project consisted of providing special inspection and materials testing of reinforced concrete, shop welding and fabrication, field welding and erection, high strength bolting, and reinforced masonry. Additional services included testing of CIDH piles, wood testing, fire proofing, glazed aluminum curtain wall welding inspection, and quality control and inspection of construction materials.

RMA Group’s inspectors utilized our TIM application to provide all reports in a robust electronic format. The results of all tests and inspections were made available to the team in a secure project web site, improving project communication.
