Westside Interceptor Relief Sewer
Location: Chino
Client: Inland Empire Utilities Agency
Cost: $5,500,000
The Westside Interceptor Relief Sewer project consisted of constructing a 54-inch diameter, reinforced concrete pipe sewer from Grand Avenue and Roswell Avenue in the City of Chino to the new Carbon Canyon Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant at Chino Hills Parkway and Monte Vista Avenue.

RMA Group provided geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, and materials testing services for this project under a three-year on-call contract with the Inland Empire Utilities Agency. Our geotechnical engineering services included the development of a backfill specification to prevent the migration of the locally fine grained clays and silts into the crushed rock that supported the pipeline as well as providing recommendations for the temporary stability and shoring of trench excavations.

During construction, RMA Group provided cross-trained materials testing technicians onsite to provide compaction testing for the pipeline backfill and materials testing of concrete and aggregates.During their work on the pipeline, our technicians demonstrated their excellent communication and organizational skills and extensive knowledge of basic civil engineering principles and were able to supplement the inspection staff from IEUA and provide inspections for trench safety, traffic control, labor compliance, and force account work. Their knowledge and capability to perform multiple functions for the project significantly reduced the costs of the overall quality program for the agency.
